Around 2pm today the Summerside Storm announced through their Facebook page that they have released 3 more players, two were UPEI Panthers. ”The Storm have released SG Sherone Edwards, SG Calvin Brock and PF Doug McKinney. We wish all of them the best, and appreciate all their hard work the last couple of weeks in camp.” - Summerside Storm – Friends of Island Pro Basketball
These new cuts puts the roster down to 13 men. The team originally wanted 12 but considering they’re approaching their last pre-season game tomorrow it’s possible the roster is finalized.
Sherone Edwards and Doug Mckinney played their full university career on the Panthers basketball team. Mckinney is Charlottetown native and received a warm welcome when he took the court at last weeks game against the Rainmen. Sherone Edwards was a former All-Canadian and AUS Player of the Year while at UPEI. And Calvin Brock a Chicago native was at camp from day one.
When the Storm announced the release of these players the feedback wasn’t very positive.
Here’s are some comments on the announcement:
“Where’s the Dislike button, WE WANTED DOUG!!”
“I’m glad I held off buying season tickets for the family. It would have been “Worth the drive to Summerside” had they kept Doug and Sherone.”
“Very disappointed to see the boys go. Would have been nice to go to a game and recognize someone on the floor. Good luck to the team.”
The Storm play host to the Saint John Mill Rats tomorrow night at the Credit Union Place in the Eastlink Arena. Gametime is 7pm and is currently standing room only.
