The Summerside Storm are back in action as they face off against the Saint John Mill Rats tonight at 7pm in the Harbour Station.  Summerside has already played Saint John twice this year.  The first was a pre-season affair at the Credit Union Place on October 27 in front of a sell out crowd, Saint John won the game 90-82.  The second match-up was a regular season game and also in Summerside, the Storm won the game 112-98 in front of 2100+ fans.  You can catch tonight’s game streamed live on the Mill Rats official website —>

Summerside will also have two new faces in the line-up tonight.  Jared Carter a 7’2″ center out of Kentucky University will be eligible to go tonight after being signed by The Storm Monday.  There’s also Rasheem Barrett; a 6’5″ guard out of Auburn University.  Barrett arrived in Summerside last night after he was singed by the Storm due to an injury of Dwight Brewington, the starting shooting guard.

Tonight’s game is truly unpredictable.  The Mill Rats are 0-2 and the Storm are 2-0 but that doesn’t necessarily give the Storm much of an edge tonight.  Playing on their home court could really help Saint John, they will also have their fans supporting them tonight.   Both of these teams are very closely matched, it could come down to what team makes better decisions with the ball.

The Summerside Storm are finally about to make an appearance on their home court tonight.  This highly anticipated game is sold out due to the NBL of Canada’s official sponsor Roger Communications buying over 4,000 tickets for local fans .

Saint John will be arriving in Summerside later today, while the Storm are resting for tonight’s game.  Former Detroit Piston Will Blalock will be playing for the Mill Rats tonight, he averaged 1.8 ppg and 1.2 apg in his 14 games as a pro.

Game time is 7 tonight in the Eastlink Arena at the Credit Union Place.

* I unfortunately was unable to make tonight’s game, but I had several people giving me great info and updates!

There was a very enthusiastic crowd on hand, at least 3,000 fans.

Great national anthem and pre game ceremony, the introductions were very exciting.

The Storm started the game off very weak, they quickly fell into a 0-11 hole, but fought back and went on a 9-0 run to make the score 11-9 for Saint John.

The Storm struggled from the perimeter all night long, missing the majority of their long range shots and 3′s.

It was a very physical contest, with lots of loose ball plays and floor dives.

The majority of the game the Mill Rats held the lead.

Storm only down 2 going to the 4th quarter.

In the end Saint John prevailed and snatched the game for the Storm.  Saint  John Wins 90-82.

Tonight your Storm will be squaring off against the Miracle’s at the Moncton Coliseum, game time is 7.

This game was bought out by Roger’s Communications for the basketball fans of Moncton.  There is expected to be some 6000 fans on hand for the game.

There will be lots of great entertainment throughout tonight’s game said  Kim Blanco, the Miracles’ senior vice-president of business affairs.  She spoke highly of the Miracles dance team and mascot that will be entertaining the fans tonight.  She also mentioned that the national anthem singer Heather Allison, who is nominated for an ECMA award will be performing at halftime.

Tonight’s game is the first for the Miracle’s and third for the Strom’s. The Storm are 0-2 this pre-season losing to Halifax both times.  Storm coach Joe Salerno said he’s looking for a better showing from his team tonight.  Hopefully they will do just that!

Summerside held a lead throughout the entire game tonight.  At the end of the first they were up 24-15, going in to half 41-34, and the Storm didn’t look back from there.  Summerside WON the game 97-86

With the NBL pre-season under way the Summerside Storm have turned up the heat in their workouts and practices.  The Storm are heading to Charlottetown for their first ever pre-season game against the Halifax Rainmen.  The game will take place at 7pm in the UPEI Sports Center.  The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for students, with a portion of the proceeds going to Minor Basketball.

In other news the Storm picked up two new players over the last 24 hours.  The first, a former UPEI Panther, Sherone Edwards.  He played with UPEI for his entire collegiate career (5 years).  He showed great signs of leadership and was a solid scorer and play maker throughout his career.  The Storm’s Facebook page announced the news; “The Summerside STORM would like to welcome former 1st team All-Canadian and AUS Player of the Year Sherone Edwards back to the Island!”

The second player to join the roster is 6’5 guard Dwight Brewington.  He attended Liberty University in Virginia and later played for Lobos De La UAC Saltillo in the Mexican LNBP in 2007 .  He hails from Lynn, Massachusetts and was born on March 17, 1984.   On his Facebook he writes, “ I am OUT To Canada TOMORROW MORNING…To PEI To Rock For Summerside Storm.”

Both Sherone and Dwight seem very excited to have the opportunity to play basketball at the professional level again, although no ones position on the team is verified at this point.  There could be cuts made at any time said coach Joe Salerno.  The roster is back up to 16 guys and the team will only be taking 12 into the November 3rd season opener against Quebec.

A surprising announcement was made today when the Quebec Kebs announced they have signed former Toronto Raptor and slam dunk contest participant Jamario Moon.  The specifics of the deal have not yet been released.  Summerside play their regular season opener against the Quebec Kebs on at 7pm on November 3 at the Credit Union Place.

Also my full interview with head coach Joe Salerno will be released tomorrow.
