The Credit Union Place was a hopping spot on New Years Eve!  With every type of family entertainment you could ever want plus a professional basketball game all under one roof made the CUP the place to be.  However, the evening ended on a sour note with the visiting Saint John Mill Rats pulling out a 103-89 victory over the Storm in front of 3296 fans.

From the get-go Saint John had Summerside right where they wanted them, finishing the first quarter with a five point lead, and they didn’t look back from there.  The Mill Rats finished the game shooting 38% from the floor while Summerside was only 33%.   High scorers were Troy Jackson of the Storm with 22, and Anthony Anderson with 24 for the Mill Rats.

It’s finally here, the most anticipated game of the season is tonight!  The Saint John Mill Rats (8-9 win/loss) are here in Summerside to take on the (7-10) Storm.  There were family activities all day at the Credit Union Place that will end with this game.  Tonight’s game has had people talking since the season began so tickets are on high demand.  However there are still some tickets remaining for the game, you can get all your ticket information here —> http://summersidestorm.net/tickets-2/

This game also has significant importance for the Storm.  They are going into tonight two games behind Saint John, but that would all be changed with a win.  If the Storm in fact won tonight that would move their record to 8-10, and Saint John would drop to 8-10 also.  However, if Summerside were to lose tonight they would fall to 7-11 on the season and that would move Saint John up to 9-9.  Considering that, I feel tonight is a MUST WIN game for the Storm, if they lost it wouldn’t officially eliminate them from they playoffs but it sure would add unwanted pressure to this team down the final stretch of the season.

The Storm and Mill Rats are 2-2 in regular season play so far this year, so this game really could go either way.  It will be up to Storm coach Joe Salerno to stress defence and smart passes to his team tonight.  And it’s up to the players to play a full 48 minutes of basketball and limit their defensive breakdowns.

The Summerside Storm lost in their battle against The Saint John Millrats at Harbour Station tonight.

The Storm came out strong with an early 15-6 lead, and ended the first quarter up, 23-19. In the second the Millrats came out strong and held on to end of the second leading 60-55.  The Storm’s defense could not hold up to the MIllrats and their lead continued until the end of the match, final score being 118-97 Millrats.

High scorers for Summerside were Al Stewart with 16 and Mike Williams with 15.  For the Millrats it was Antonio Burks with 25 and Anthony Anderson with 23

The Storm play next at home tomorrow against The Quebec Kebs 7pm ADT, and again on Friday 7:30pm ADT when they take on number one ranked London, also at home.

The Summerside Storm are in Saint John once again to face the Mill Rats.  Game time is 7pm Atlantic Time and will take place in Saint John’s Harbour Station.  The Mill rats currently have a .500 record on the season at 4-4; meanwhile the Storm are well above the .500 mark with 5 wins and only 3 losses.

Tonight’s game will also be very special for Storm coach Joe Salerno because there will be a record number of former Vermont Frost Heaves in the building (coach Salerno’s former team) .  He was clearly very excited about the game when he wrote  ”‎7 former Frost Heaves playing in tomorrow nights game in Saint John! Storm- Al Stewart, Julian Allen, Chris Cayole, Mike Williams, Jared Carter. Mill Rats- Antonio Burks, Greg Plummer…wow!”
