On Thursday night at the Credit Union Place the Saint John Mill Rats were back in town.

There was a pre-game moment of silence for former Quebec Kebs player Sam Carey who passed away suddenly on Tuesday.

The game started at 7:12pm, Summerside won the tip.

Anthony Anderson of Saint John scored the first basket of the game on a drive.

Julian Allen scored first for Summerside on a finger roll down the lane.

The score after the first was 18-17 for Saint John.

Dwight Brewington (5) checked into the game at 3:21 in the second after being placed on the injured reserve for two weeks.

The second quarter was a disaster for Summerside; there were too many bad shots being forced all quarter.   The Storm trailed by 17 going into half,  score was 52-53.

Anthony Anderson of Saint John  had 20 points at half.

Summerside’s top scorer was Mike Williams with 9.

If Summerside were to lose any more energy they would be dead.  Another miserable quarter for Summersidel; they now trail by 32 going into the fourth, score is 85-53.

In the fourth Summerside did all they could to make it a competitive game but they fell short 106-90.

Notes:

Summerside have a 2-1 record against Saint John and a 3-2 record overall.

Attendance was 1894.

Anthony Anderson of Saint John scored a game high 35.

Mill Rats center Antoine Tisby had a double double scoring 20 and grabbing 10 boards.

Also Mill Rats guard Will Blalock had a double double; however points weren’t involved.  Blalock standing at only 6″ feet soared above all to grab 10 rebounds while adding 10 assists.

Julian Allen led the Storm with 21.

Next Storm game is tomorrow at the Credit Union Place against the Moncton Miracles, 7:30 tip-off

In front of nearly 2,000 fans at the Harbour Station in Saint John your Summerside Storm stole the game from the Mill Rats.  The Storm managed to tie the game up late in the fourth at 97-97 after nearly four full quarters of closely trailing Saint John.  When the game hit overtime the tables turned, Summerside aggressively attacked the Mill Rats D giving them many favourable opportunities.  Saint John put up a last minute fight but it was a case of too little too late due to Storm guard Al Stewart making a clutch free throw to give Summerside a four point lead with only seconds left.  Saint John did all they could and tossed up a successful 3 but they still fell one point short.  Final score 108-107.

Mill Rats:

Anthony Anderson  had a notable game scoring 25 going 10 for 26 from the floor.  Marc Egerson and Sherton Sanderson both added 18 points.  Former Detroit Piston Will Blalock put up 13 points and 9 assists.

Storm:

Once again Mike Williams got it done for Summerside, he scored 26 while adding 7 boards and 6 assists.  Summerside’s regular season leading scorer Julian Allen added 16, meanwhile Al Stewart dished out 11 helpers.

The surprise of the night came from Summerside’s new skyscraper, 7’2″ center Jared Carter.  He was sensational for his first game in uniform, he scored 21 going 10-13 from the field.  Carter is not necessarily known as a scorer but he proved that wrong Thursday.  If he can keep this type of play up he will have a prominent role on this team.

The Storm will next be in Halifax to face the Rainmen Sunday, November 13 at 2pm.  The game can be watched live at

The Summerside Storm are back in action as they face off against the Saint John Mill Rats tonight at 7pm in the Harbour Station.  Summerside has already played Saint John twice this year.  The first was a pre-season affair at the Credit Union Place on October 27 in front of a sell out crowd, Saint John won the game 90-82.  The second match-up was a regular season game and also in Summerside, the Storm won the game 112-98 in front of 2100+ fans.  You can catch tonight’s game streamed live on the Mill Rats official website —>

Summerside will also have two new faces in the line-up tonight.  Jared Carter a 7’2″ center out of Kentucky University will be eligible to go tonight after being signed by The Storm Monday.  There’s also Rasheem Barrett; a 6’5″ guard out of Auburn University.  Barrett arrived in Summerside last night after he was singed by the Storm due to an injury of Dwight Brewington, the starting shooting guard.

Tonight’s game is truly unpredictable.  The Mill Rats are 0-2 and the Storm are 2-0 but that doesn’t necessarily give the Storm much of an edge tonight.  Playing on their home court could really help Saint John, they will also have their fans supporting them tonight.   Both of these teams are very closely matched, it could come down to what team makes better decisions with the ball.

PG Al Stewart Shooting A Jumper

The Summerside Storm were back in action at the Eastlink Arena on Friday night when they squared off against the Saint John Mill Rats.  From jump ball the game went back and forth, both teams swapping leads until later in the game when Summerside took over.  The Storm managed to contain former Detroit Piston Will Blalock, the Mill Rats point guard to only 4 points on the night.  However Saint John center Antoine Tisby managed to put up 20 point and pull down 8 boards.  Team leaders for the Storm in the scoring department were Mike Williams and Xavier Hansbro each with 19.  Point guard Al Stewart nearly put up a triple triple, (10+ points, 10+ assist, 10+rebounds) He scored 14 and added 7 rebounds and assists.  Also Canadian Troy Gottselig had 3 blocks, 3 steals, 3 assists, 10 points and 5 boards.

The Storm won the game 112-98

Another great game for the Storm tonight.  Once again they played within their limits and didn’t force many shots, their smart decision making the last two games is why they’re on top of the league with a 2-0 record.

Notes:

Halftime score was 44-40 for Summerside

Attendance was 2144.

Doug McKinney didn’t see any floor time tonight.

The Storm’s next game is in Saint John at 7pm Thursday Nov. 10

Summerside’s next home game will be on Thursday Nov. 17 at 7pm vs. Saint John again.

The Summerside Storm are finally about to make an appearance on their home court tonight.  This highly anticipated game is sold out due to the NBL of Canada’s official sponsor Roger Communications buying over 4,000 tickets for local fans .

Saint John will be arriving in Summerside later today, while the Storm are resting for tonight’s game.  Former Detroit Piston Will Blalock will be playing for the Mill Rats tonight, he averaged 1.8 ppg and 1.2 apg in his 14 games as a pro.

Game time is 7 tonight in the Eastlink Arena at the Credit Union Place.

* I unfortunately was unable to make tonight’s game, but I had several people giving me great info and updates!

There was a very enthusiastic crowd on hand, at least 3,000 fans.

Great national anthem and pre game ceremony, the introductions were very exciting.

The Storm started the game off very weak, they quickly fell into a 0-11 hole, but fought back and went on a 9-0 run to make the score 11-9 for Saint John.

The Storm struggled from the perimeter all night long, missing the majority of their long range shots and 3′s.

It was a very physical contest, with lots of loose ball plays and floor dives.

The majority of the game the Mill Rats held the lead.

Storm only down 2 going to the 4th quarter.

In the end Saint John prevailed and snatched the game for the Storm.  Saint  John Wins 90-82.
